Maddie Earns Belt in Tae Kwon Do

June 1, 2009

Maddie, a participant in The Homestead's youth home has been actively pursuing her Tae Kwon Do training earning an orange belt. Lewis James, a certified Tae Kwon Do instructor also serves as a member of The Homestead's leadership staff. It was because of Lewis's encouragement that Maddie has pursued her martial arts training.

Recently a state surveyor was in the home for the annual survey. The surveyor had many compliments to offer the organization for their performance. At the exit interview the surveyor commented he didn't understand what Maddie was saying when she was counting while completing a daily task. Then the staff pointed out that she was counting in Korean - a skill she developed as a result of her Tae Kwon Do training.

Maddie has a special relationship with Lewis and took great pleasure in shopping for a special dress to wear when the two of them attended the annual martial arts banquet in Ames.
