Pioneer Volunteers Help at The Homestead Farm
June 3, 2010
Pioneer Volunteers at The Homestead Farm
Pleasant Hill, IA-A group of volunteers from Pioneer Hi-Bred International, a DuPont business, spent the morning of June 2 at The Homestead Farm in Pleasant Hill. They mulched and staked tomato plants that, when mature, will supply tomatoes for members of The Homestead's CSA program.
The day started out overcast with a strong chance for rain. But a small group of volunteers from Pioneer were determined to spend the morning on the farm working in the fields.
"Pioneer has been very generous in sending volunteers to the farm," said Eric Armbrecht, vocational director at The Homestead. "We rely on volunteers and most of the volunteers from Pioneer have a good working knowledge of the farm, aren't afraid to get dirty, and really work hard."
