The Homestead Farm

Members have the option of purchasing a single share membership for $450 or may elect to purchase a double share membership for $850.

A single share is designed to supplement fresh fruit and vegetable consumption for 1-2 person households. A double share is designed to supplement the fruit and vegetable needs of a 3-4 person household. It may also be useful for those 1-2 person households that eat more vegetables than most or who use food preservation for longer term use.

During the season, pick up at the farm is available for membership. Delivery is available to home or businesses for an added fee. Drop sites are also available in the Des Moines metro area. Please contact us for delivery options.

Occasionally the farm produces additional fruits and vegetables for sale outside of the membership shares. Contact us if you wish to receive email updates for special pricing on items as they become available.

Thank you so much for your interest in The Homestead and our CSA program. We look forward to a great season of healthy, naturally grown fruits and vegetables.

The Homestead operates a six-acre farm including vegetables and an apple orchard on our campus in Pleasant Hill, Iowa. The Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program that is a part of the farm is staffed by residents of The Homestead's campus residential program and overseen by trained farm professionals. Through this program, The Homestead provides delicious, Certified Naturally Grown produce to our community and wonderful learning and vocational opportunities for individuals served by our programs.

What is a CSA Program?

A CSA, (Community Supported Agriculture) program is a way for individuals or families to create a relationship with a farm and the people that grow their food. Each member of our CSA receives a weekly basket of fresh produce throughout the growing season, which is typically 16 to 20 weeks. By making a financial commitment to a farm, people become shareholders of the CSA and receive their share of the weekly harvest.

Buying locally grown produce through our CSA program means you are:

  1. helping employ individuals with autism
  2. investing in the local economy
  3. living green by purchasing food that was grown with minimal impact on the planet
  4. decreasing your carbon footprint by minimizing the distance your food travels to your plate
  5. living healthy by purchasing food that was grown naturally without the hazardous chemicals used by many in the food production industry

Certified Naturally Grown

All produce from The Homestead is Certified Naturally Grown. This peer-based system evaluates our farm and growing practices to ensure our produce meets the same standards as organically grown food.

Visit www.naturallygrown.org to learn more about the Certified Naturally Grown program.

Delivery

The Homestead makes weekly produce deliveries to shareholders. Delivery charges are extra and vary based on how far away your home or office is from The Homestead farm. Shareholders can, of course, stop by the farm and pick up their weekly produce if they prefer.
